Bridging Wellness and Environmental Stewardship
Last week Experience Momentum hosted 23 pairs of folks, willingly being pushed to their physical, mental, and emotional threshold while engaging in a series of partner workouts, pushing their physical limits (lots of sweating and smiling) while forging new connections and fostering camaraderie around the environment. It was invigorating to witness individuals from varying backgrounds working together (or against each other) to champion a common cause: the health of our planet.
With four kids, it can be hard to find time to go on a date with my wife, Kelly, but this was a 'date' we were stoked to go on. With that said, there were moments in the events when we were out of breath, muscles aching, sweat pouring, and looking at each like 'what the ___ are we doing?' However, in the end it was fun and we were grateful for the experience together. The true victor of the day was Planet Earth itself. Experience Momentum committed $7,500 to be donated to environmental nonprofits chosen by the top performers in each category.
This event reminded me of the quote from Chief Seattle, “We don’t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children” as a parent of four young children, ages 3-13, this message strikes a profound chord with me. I continually ponder how I can stand as an ally for our planet, not solely for my own kiddos, but for the collective future of humanity. Witnessing the decline of our natural resources juxtaposed with the divisive political landscape, I'm reminded that regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation, we are all tethered by our reliance on the Earth's life-sustaining elements. Air, water, and food are not luxuries; they are essential threads weaving us together in the fabric of existence. The time has come for us to unite in safeguarding the health of our shared home, which we borrow from generations yet to come.
Change is an ever-present force in our lives, and in the words of Gandhi, we must "be the change we wish to see in the world." Experience Momentum has a vision of interconnectedness, a world bound by compassion and understanding, where the well-being of our planet is paramount. But how do we translate this vision into action? The answer lies in our collective effort, our sweat equity if you will. Sweat, yes sweat, being a key component to this equation!
At Experience Momentum, we are continually striving to bridge the gap between personal health and wellness and environmental health and stewardship. Recognizing the inseparable link between human and planetary health, we recently organized our inaugural "Sweat for the Environment" fitness competition in celebration of Earth Day. The response was nothing short of extraordinary! It was an experience that left me vibrating with enthusiasm.
Reflecting on our participation in Sweat for the Environment, Kelly and I proudly directed our contribution to EarthCorps, an organization dedicated to environmental leadership and equity. Hearing others share their chosen beneficiaries - from Protect Our Winters to Washington National Park Foundation, Conservation Northwest, and Outdoor Afro - underscored the collective resolve to safeguard our planet for future generations. What was equally cool was hearing the 'why' participants chose their environmental nonprofit. They were connected to the work and the mission of these groups.
As we look ahead, our aim is to expand this initiative, amplifying awareness and building this up in support of our planet's well-being. Each step forward, no matter how small, brings us closer to realizing our shared vision of a thriving Earth.
In reflecting on the experience , I am so grateful for your unwavering support of Experience Momentum. Your commitment to our mission resonates deeply and fuels our resolve to effect positive change. Together, let's continue to be the change we wish to see in the world! We hope to see you at the next Sweat for the Environment event.
